Dementia Care
Dementia care services through ComForCare Macomb help individuals with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia (at any stage) do more of what they enjoy in the familiarity of their home. The dementia care services we provide are designed to enhance quality of life by helping clients remain independent for as long as possible while making it easier for families to enjoy precious time with their loved ones.
ComForCare Macomb is a DementiaWise®-certified office, which means our agency has met the corporate high standards for caregiver education and skills in dementia care. The ComForCare and At Your Side Home Care dementia curriculum, DementiaWise, has been reviewed by the Alzheimer’s Association® and meets the Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations in certain topics as per the report issued on March 9, 2017. Through the DementiaWise program, every caregiver at ComForCare Macomb has received specialized dementia care training. Through this training, your caregiver is able to:
- Implement best practices for dementia care
- Bring awareness to challenging dementia behavior
- Use redirection techniques
- Delivery customized daily care
- Engage in meaningful activities
Meaningful Activities
ComForCare Macomb provides more than highly qualified caregivers. Our home care services include Meaningful Activities that help clients live their best life possible. We have found that when clients are engaged in activities important to them, they are more willing to accept care. Meaningful Activities are customized based on each client’s interests, hobbies, skills and abilities. Meaningful Activities can help with activities of daily living, stimulate conversation and reminiscence, encourage movement, and reduce agitation and foster positive emotions.
Family Support
Our caregivers understand that caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia can be a challenging experience for family members. However, with the support of compassionate caregivers and specialized dementia care, our agency is able to support you and your loved one. Additionally, ComForCare has a wide variety of resources and videos that can inform family members on common dementia-related behaviors.
