Is ComForCare Home Care Treasure Coast a Home Health Care Agency or a Nurse Registry?

Great question! We are a home health care agency, not a Nurse Registry. However, we know that the two can look very similar. Let us explain the difference. Both options place Home Health Aids (HHAs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in client’s homes. To work for either, caregivers must be licensed by the state. However, with a nurse registry, the caregivers are 1099 independent contractors, and while they’re licensed, they are typically not bonded or insured, not covered by workers comp and responsible for their own employment taxes. With a Nurse Registry, the client assumes the role of the employer. ComForCare in Treasure Coast is a home care agency; therefore, every one of our caregivers are licensed, bonded and insured – we pay the professional liability insurance, we pay the workers comp, we pay the overtime and we pay the employment taxes, which means that our agency is the true employer for every caregiver on our team. Another big difference between the two businesses is the ability to train team members. A Nurse Registry’s independent contractors are deemed experts in their field and therefore are not allowed to be trained over and above what the state requires. At ComForCare Home Care Treasure Coast, we are able to train each of our caregivers, and we go over and above what the state recommends. Our caregivers receive additional training to help them provide the best care possible for our clients. Trainings that we offer include Alzheimer’s and dementia training, Parkinson’s training, Holocaust survivor training, Jewish cultural training, and skilled services training.

Does your business provide 24/7 home care services? If not, what should I do if an issue arises outside of regular business hours?

Yes, we provide 24/7 home care services for clients. We do not use an after-hours service. When a client calls after hours, the phones at our office are forwarded to an on-call phone answered by a team member that is available to assist with emergencies. Additionally, if immediate action is needed, our home care agency is family-owned and operated, which allows clients to always have access to one of our owners.

Do you charge extra for nights or weekend care?

No, our home care agency does not charge a premium for nights or weekends. Our team is available to provide quality care 7 days a week, 365 days a year (including holidays).

Does Medicare help pay for your services?

No. Medicare pays for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy along with other skilled services, including wound care, and it requires a doctor’s order. Medicare does not cover private-duty home care. Typical payment methods include private pay, VA, long-term care insurance, and in limited cases, Medicaid. Questions About Our Caregivers

Are all of your employees required to take a criminal background check?

Yes. The state of Florida requires a Level 2 background check which is a fingerprint-based criminal background check processed by the FBI’s National Crime Information Center. However, that is not adequate to ensure your full protection, so we go over and above what the state requires and use a third-party background check company to conduct an additional arrest records search.

Does your agency pay the caregiver or do I pay?

Clients will never have to directly pay a caregiver. All of the home care services provided through ComForCare Home Care Treasure Coast are billed upon completion to ensure that each client is correctly billed for the amount of hours worked by our caregivers.

What if I don’t get along with the caregiver?

Our goal is to provide each client with the best in-home care services. If the caregiver that has been chosen for your loved one isn’t a perfect match, let us know and we can assist in finding a better option to meet their needs.

How do you select the caregiver to match with my loved one?

We take the information from our initial intake call plus what we see from meeting the client, then talk with our scheduling team about the client’s needs and schedule to determine the best caregiver. We do not do what is known in the industry as “caregiver roulette,” which means the next caregiver that answers her phone gets the job. We really try to find the best caregiver to match with each client based on needs, schedule, and personality. However, finding a great caregiver can be like dating. You don’t marry the first one you meet. If it’s not a good match, just let us know, tell us what’s working and what isn’t, and we’ll make a change.
